using kalk with a tunze osmolator.....possible?

I will be using a calcium reactor and kalk as my top off water and was wondering if I can use kalk with the tunze osmolator??? Anyone doing this or done it before? If so, did you have to clean the sensor alot?? Did you like the setup? thanks a ton.

I use mine with a kalk reactor. The sensor is 2 chambers over from where the kalk goes into the water. I clean the eye every few months, but the kalk doesnt seem to have any influence on how dirty the sensor gets. I wouldnt use the osmolator pump directly in the kalk though or you'll be replacing it every few months.

I use a geo kalk reactor with the osmolator and have the kalk drip in close to the eye. Is it a known problem for the eye to get block with kalk?

I was hoping that I could just drop the pump in the kalk water mix and have it drip as a regular topoff system. That sucks.

I'm not sure but i was wondering if I could use the unit as a regular top off system how it was designed to be used but with kalk instead of just plain ro water

you have to run it through a kalk reactor some clown in my reefclub decided he was going to dump the kalk in his RO water so he wouldnt have to get a reactor overdosed his tank with kalk PH went through the roof killed everything so get a kalk reactor

you DO NOT need a kalk reactor. They are just as likely to "nuke" your tank, IMO. That said I use a kalk reactor with my Tunze osmolator and it works fine. But you can simply dump kalk into the top-off water and use the Tunze top-off pump to dispense it. You must keep the pump a good 6 inches up out of the kalk paste(off the bottom). It will go out quicker than a pump pumping clean water but not in "a few months", if you keep it out of the pasty stuff. Plus they are only like $18 to replace.

I believe normal usage is to sense the level of the sump (return section) with the osmolator sensor, push fresh water, from a reservoir of some type, into the kalkwasser reactor with the osmolator pump (so it pumps freshwater only) when the sensor indicates a low water level, and, as a result, the reactor pushes its overflow (mixed kalkwasser) into the sump (or elsewhere in the system) until it achieves the set sump water level.

I also mix kalk in my topoff reservoir (a 44G Brute) and have done so for years. I believe it is a better method than a reactor. So does Randy Holmes-Farley. I use a $12 Aqualifter for a topoff pump. They seem to be impervious to damage from pumping limewater. I'm not sure how well the Tunze pump fares pumping limewater. As above, keep it off the bottom so it doesn't pump solids.

periods and commas are awesome...

I started with a settled container, went to a reactor and went back to a settled container. The reactor was more of a hassle. The settled container couldn't be easier. Fill it up with RO, mix in a couple cups of lime, put the lid on. Done. Takes a couple extra seconds when refilling.
