utter chaos requirements

as the title say, what are the requirements for this gorgeous paly as far as flow and lighting are concerned?
just picked up a very healthy looking 2 polyps for 30$
best bargain i've ever come across if you ask me.
they are acclimating along with an orange setosa mini colony and 2 polyps of Darth Maul palys as I type

lord, good deal! :o)

i have mine under a 150w 12k reeflux SE. Low flow, shaded a bit. Growing great! The light is i think 15" above the water. the frag is ~ 8" under the water.. hth

no prob.. i have a 250 on the other side of my frag tank.. lmk how yours do cus I was thinking of (once i frag mine) moving some to that side to see which is better..

well i might as well give you an update now, because i put it about a third of the way up in a low flow zone but i put them in direct light,
i must have done something right because normally it takes a few days for new polyp frags to open but these were open after about an hour or so this is one of the frags, the other is in my frag tank.

My colony grew the best when i had it up it in high light and high flow. They were in a 57g on a frag shelf that was across from an mp40 on the other side of the tank. They were under AI, not directly mind you but off to the side. I had amazing growth and color and then I moved them down off the frag shelf and they melted on me. Was really bummed (bought some more, but my mini colony was one of my favorites).

thank you very much, i will definetly try it to see if i can maximize growth
sorry to hear about them melting though

I have mine under intense L.E.D's and they seemed to do best lower in the tank (i consider low lighting) the polyps get larger and you get a nice contrast of dark vs light colors. But it is different in every tank. IME zoas/palys do love flow for growth so thats always a plus. Good luck, and awesome deal!!!

thank you to both of the previous replies. i currently have moderate-high flow and moderate-low light and i already have 2 baby heads.. my goodness these things do grow fast. i always thought people said that about these to make them more appealing.

I'm sorry, I don't even count a polyp as a frag.
A polyp IS a polyp.
I would call a frag (fragmentation of a colony) at least about 5 to 10 polyps min.
But who am I?
I'm learning every day the new reality of this hobby.
Nice polyp!:bounce2:

Grandis.

actually i never really considered that! ^
but that does make sense, i usually only buy one polyp at a time if its super expensive or a fast grower, However, i find myself buying single polyps more and more simply because there is some childish excitement every time i see my corals go from 1 polyp to 2 polyps to 3 polyps to 5 to 7 to 10... this was first experienced by me with my purple hornets!

+1 for low in the tank (under leds) mine are on the sand bed and going nuts.

Love those palys and their polyps get bigger under lower lighting.

Also +1 some of mine are now about the size of a quarter

i believe it, some of the polyps in the place where i bought mine were about that size. They're absolutely gorgeous, really.

Meh. A quarter is definitely a bit of a stretch I looked at them last night top down and they are probably closer to a nickle in size. I'm happy to post a pic later if anyone still wants to see. Between the the curved glass and me constantly telling my wife that things are bigger than they really are, ;) I may have embellished a little bit.

Still though my utters are among the largest of my palys and definitely one of my favorites. I bought a single polyp for $40-$50 cant remember so IMO you got a good deal.
