It will kill your Pods, thats the down fall, The up is that it helps with Algee, parasites like ICH and so on, It wont cure ICh but help keep it from comming on if it enters your tank.
That is what I know about them. I run a 15watt UV on my 90G reef, I dont run all the return through it only about half. I figure my refug has enough pods for the tank they breed like rabbits.
