vacuum degassers

Does anyone have experience using one of these on their system or know of anyone that's used one? I know they are used mostly in large aquaculture facilities to reduce total gas pressure, but maybe someone here with larger-scale experience might have some insight. Here are a couple of articles I found on them if anyone is interested.

Mostly just curious to see how they work and how effective they are in fish breeding.

Thanks,

Christine

Just bumping this thread to add a interesting link.

Not about vaccum degassing but column degassing, easier to build and in fact just like a trickle filter. Don´t know if gas supersaturation is a problem for breeding marine aquarium fishes but may already being dealt with when bio-balls are used! ;)

Just wondering if gas bubble syndrome in seahorses have anything to do with this... guess Christine have the same thought, right ?

Anderson.

that is used in big food fish hatcheries where gas saturation can become a problem.

Like you said trickle filters in small systems do the trick for fish.

I know for a fact two of the most experienced seahorse breeders don't use protein skimmers and use submerged bio filters.

Thanks Anderson for the article. It's got some references I might need to check out.

Ed,

I'm interested in your comment about not using protein skimmers with seahorses. Would you be willing to expand on that? PM me if you wish. Thanks

Christine

Yeah Ed,
I was thinking venturi skimmers would add to saturation but in fact any skimmers do push gas to the system water... Interesting...
Do you know if those breeders do still have problems with bubble disease ?

Christine, I´m looking for those references too. If you find any, post them here, I´ll do the same.

Anderson.
