finally time to fill the tank, i have 10 buckets of ro water ready to get mixed with salt !! ( I bought the ro/di from Melev and it is awsome , great product) my question is ,, i am buying live rock from a lfs , how and what is the best way to prepare the rock before it goes into the tank , also once the live sand and rock are in the tank , way before any coral and fish of course . should i keep my lights on for the entire day as if coral and fish were already in the tank or can i just leave them on half the day ? thanks for your help !!!!

Just put the rock in the tank, it will have to cure. I would keep everything running as you would on a mature tank (including the lights). The live sand may bite the dust as the rock cures so you may want to wait until your cycle is over before adding it. Try to get rock that doesn't smell bad from the LFS, that way the cure time will be less. Good luck!

any more advice ????????????

Well Ray, it has been a month since your post. So what is the status of your tank? Did you get any further helpful advice?

well the water is in ,and everything is going great so far. the live rock was in the tank with no lights for a month to cure. i then removed and gave a final scrub . the system is now running with the lights on and the skimmer on . the kalk reactor is working great . the ro is working great . i tested the water and everything checks out just fine. i do have a question on the live rock it appears now that the lights are on some of the die off ( green plant looking things are starting to grow, when i introduce the cleaning crew will they take care of that , or is there some type of small fish i can buy that will eat that .. thanks for your help !!

The clean up crew should be added as soon as the tank is fully cycled. They'll work on your rocks, substrate and glass.

You don't need to feed your tank much at all, and especially not to feed the cleanup crew. They should find plenty of food on your LR.

thanks alot for the advice . i will be adding the crew in the next week . i will update with some pics. thanks for your help..
