Video Editing

If you want to do it cheaply, a lot of people like Sony Vegas. I know three people at my work who use it and like it.

If you want something with more features and that is a more professional oriented program (which you probably dont need since you're even asking this question) then you can go with Sony Vegas Pro.

If on a Mac, Final Cut Express, and if you have the funds Final Cut Pro. I used to teach Broadcasting and spent a few years video editing. FCP was by far my favorite. If PC, ^^ they have you covered.

Try to get an older version. I haven't used the new FC, but a lot of people have complained about it, and many of the pros are sticking with the old version. Apparently, the new one lost a lot of functionality, and then, to make things even worse, it's not backwards compatible.

I should also mention, I use iMovie HD if I'm doing simple editing, and FCE when I'm doing something more complicated.

Final Cut Pro X is basically a beefier iMovie. If you are looking to do stuff for YouTube, it's pretty much perfect. If you want to do a feature film like True Grit or something, you'll probably want Final Cut Pro 7. I use Final Cut Pro X and I like it, but I don't do anything too elaborate.
