Viper HQI system

I am looking for a metal halide system for my 12 gallon jbj nano dlx, i would prefer the system to be used or new at a good price if possible, does not have to be the viper system just something that would fit on my nano. I want to start keeping higher end corals and need a metal halide system in order to do this, so if anyone out there has a metal halide system for a 12 gallon jbj dlx could you please contact me. Thank you.

I have the viper system on a 20x20x16 high cube i had made.

The light isn't that bad, but I don't think the reflector is very efficient, nor do I like the "14k" bulb that came with it. In fact the bulb sucks. I currently have SPS living in it under this one light though and they look pretty damned good. So I guess if you wanted to know will it work, the answer is yes.

For the price, it's really not that bad a light. Just don't expect it to live under a lot of abuse.

I am still currently searching for what would be the best bulb for it. I started a thread on here asking, but it seems unless you're selling something of the latest fad for cheap, or you're some great self-proclaimed scientist you don't get replies, even though you've clearly stated you've looked through all of sanjay joshi's articles (credible stuff) and the bulbs you're exploring aren't covered....

Looks like I'm going to have to buy a few bulbs and find out for myself.....I've gotten no help here on that subject and I have no experience with 150 watt bulbs other than this fixture and what it came with.

P.S. In response to 55semireef, there is no need to go with a 55 gallon if you keep the corals properly trimmed. Also that would negate having 150 watt halides and necessitate 250 watt, which will up the cost. You can keep any coral in any tank as long as you can replicate the environment in that much of a space. My 30 gallon cube does that better than most people's 200+ gallon systems with thousands in those damned tunze things.

If you want to know more bluecarpet, feel free to PM me. I have MUCH experience with lighting, and reefing in general and can probably answer any question you may have.....

Where's the beauty in having to trim corals just so they fit in their tank? I would rather much look at a 55 gallon sps tank than a 12 gallon nano. The bigger the tank, the nicer display. I wasn't disputing what you can do in a 12, I was just stating I would rather go bigger. MY OPINION.

It doesn't necessarily mean you would have to trim anything. Of course you are limited to keeping less, but this is actually a better way to go in eliminating many possibilities of chemical warfare going on in the tank. You know, all of the nice tanks on here where someone loses their ONE prized coral and they can't explain what happened? Having a few nice specimens makes drawing a conclusion a hell of a lot easier too. And the key to having a great display is not the size, but the quality of what you have. I have seen 12 gallon nano systems that are simply incredible that defy the "laws" of what's dictated on here". All of the "you can't keep that in that" bull, etc. Not true. Granted you cannot keep an achilles tang in a 20 gallon tank, lol. This is not to say that half of the people here haven't tried anyway though, and this is also not to say that a small percentage of those who did try anyway haven't had success. Just don't be locked into the perception of having to have a large tank with a million in equipment sitting under it to have a nice tank, or you become part of the problem. Some of the nicest tanks I have seen use only a skimmer, and a few supplements. A perfect example of which would be the zeovit system, which works IN ANY SIZE TANK and with proper usage with total success IN ANY SIZE TANK.
Take a look in the for sale forum at all of the postings with people selling all this crap they couldn;t use because it yielded them nothing and it will clarify what I mean. And I didn't mean to appear to jump on your back. That was not my intention. My intention is to put across the fact that not all that is big and expensive is good, or the best way to go.
