Voltage testing question

Hey guys,

Wonderful to meet all that attended the meeting.

Now to the tank. As per suggestions on Saturday I took all the sand out of the tank and put in new. Scrubbed and pulled the Bryopsis off and put everything back in. My wife and I spent 5 hours doing it and I give her a lot of credit as we were very tired at the end of it.

The tank looks a lot better but not sure yet.

2 questions for you.

1. I want to test for stray voltage in my tank and mike told me how but I forgot. Where do I put the probes. Water obviously for one but what about the other.

2. Should I expect a cycle of some sort as all I change was the sand and 1/2 the water.

Thanks Craig.

I kind of glanced at your thread. What fish store did you do the tests at? And are you still using the tap water still? If you want to experiment get a TDS meter and see where stands. Intersting.

I"m not sure if you used RO/DI water but your cyclle should be 1 week or even 2. Are you running any carbon too? Sorry to hear about the bad experience but you have a good club to back you up. Remember patience is key :)

Hey Craig, The other probe goes into a ground of one of your receptacles. that is the round hole on the bottom. If your meter leads aren't long enough use an extension cord. You will have your meter set on the AC voltage setting.

Thanks guys for the info.

Mike my wife thought I would be an idiot to stick one end into a socket and the other into the water so I haven't done it yet but I don't feel anything....I am going to get a voltmeter lesson from our mechanics tomorrow and see how brave I can be.
