Vortech and Dell UPS

Hi folks,

I just recently purchased MP40W. -- wooohooo.... I'm very excited. But now I can't decide whether I should get their original battery back up.

Currently I have Dell 1500VA. Here's a link to it

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/....aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=310-1320

Will that unit give me same run time as Eco Tech Marine battery back up for the MP40W????

That dell unit is still brand new as I got it couple months ago but haven't used it yet... so I could probably sell it for the same price as the Eco Tech battery back up. But if I will get the same amount of run time or more, I would rather keep the Dell unit.

Please let me know and thanks in advance!

Very very unlikely. The vortech batteries last for 12-48 hours. Computer UPS's are made for heavy loads for a short period, not very light loads for a very long period. It's likely you'll get 3-6 hours out of it, but probably not much more.

Your quick answer is, test it on a day off ;)

Great... thank you...

Those Dell units are not cheap... I bought it few months ago when Dell had huge sale on it. and I only paid 200. So it would be too bad to let it go... but getting another battery back up for the vortech pump is getting expansive. :-)

So I will do as suggested. I will test it as soon as the pump arrives and I will report back here (as I spent few hours searching and couldn't find anything).

The only true way to know is to open the unit up and see how many Amp Hours or AH the battery is rated at. Unfortunatly I cannot find that rating on Dell's website. Some pumps wont handle a modified sin wave output though so that is another thing that you may want to test. As said before test it to see if the pump makes any noise or anything like that and watch to see how long it lasts.

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to report back on my findings.

Well the pump arrived... I love this pump!!!!

In terms of UPS: on my current UPS (APC 1500VA) in Reef Crest Random

Sorry.. somehow by accident I pressed submit button. I apologize... here it goes again:

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to report back on my findings.

Well the pump arrived... I love this pump!!!!

In terms of UPS: on my current UPS (APC 1500VA) in Reef Crest Random Mode, the pump lasted just shy of 7 hours. Speed I had set at approximately medium.

So it is pretty good but not as good as I was hoping. After looking at the manual, it says that if vortech batter back up is used, once power is cut off mp40w automatically will go to slowest mode in order to save the battery. So they definitelly work a lot better together.

So i've decided that I will try to sell my UPS here locally for the same price that I got it for and then I will buy the vortech battery backup. On the vortech unit it says that the battery can last up to 30 hours.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
