Vortech and zoa growth

I am currently running a 20T with probably around 300 polyps of different zoas in it. For flow it has a koralia 550 and a mj400.

Anyway...I'm thinking about buying a MP10. Does anybody have an opinion or real experience if Vortechs(or controllable pumps in general) have a profound effect on coral growth.

I have one on my 60 gallon with just the return pump for flow. Mostly LPS and softies but I have about 5 different types of zoas. So far things seem fine. I tried more flow with a korilla but it may have been too much as some zoas kinda closed up.

Depending on your tank size an MP10 is rated up to 55 gallon. I may be on the line with my 60 but I wanted to try it out first before going up to a MP40. SO far as I said the MP10 seems to hold its own on my tank.

My frag tank is just two Koralia 1000+s on a hydor wavemaker. They grow really well, I'd say the vortech is just to keep space clean and for kicks and giggles. :)

Zoas need water flow, generally speaking.
You can find a sweet spot for the pump and a flow pattern that will help the zoas with their metabolism.
A specific type of pump or powerhead doesn't play on growth directly, but the way you use it will change the situation, yes.
And please remember there are many, many variables on growth/reproduction rates, including the species of zoas you've got, so...

Grandis.

The bad news is that no, buying a Vortech won't have a profound effect on your zoas.

The good news is that the Vortech is definitely worth the money overall. If you can afford it, and your reef wouldn't be better off with that money put elsewhere (eg. if you're using tap water, buy an RODI, not a Vortech), then the Vortech is well worth the money.

Buy it anyway, and any improvements to your zoas will be a bonus.

Now there's some good advice!

+1, I bought mine because it looks awesome and goes really well with the minimalistic look I wanted in my tank, plus it moves water quite nicely. Chances are my corals wouldn't notice the difference between an MP20 and a few cheap maxi jets.
