The controller and the driver are one in the same. If you mean the cord from the motor to the driver you can disconnect it. You remove the 4 screws from the driver case and unplug the motor. It has a molex quick disconnect connector.
If you want to route it through a small area and the connector does not fit then you should rethink your plans. DO NOT cut off the connector and after routing try to splice back together. I got one back in for repair where the user cut the cord and spliced back together. He was wondering why there were motor problems.
Sorry, that's what I meant. The cord from the pump to driver. Just the driver is too big to fit through 3 inch holes. Unpluggin the molox is perfect. No need to cut, thanks!
