Vortech MP10 Question

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a Vortech MP10 Es (non W version) from my LFS to use on the back wall of my 120 Gallon tank. When I unpackaged the driver, there is a distinct W after the MP10 on the white controller box.

I wanted to know if my box was mismarked by the manufacturer and I received a MP10 W ES or do all of the MP10's have this W on the controller box?

I also needed to know that since my tank appears to be between 3/8 and 1/2 inch thick if the driver will work correctly? I did a test on it without turning on power and the magnets did stick and hold for the wet and dry side.

All of the ES have "W" on the driver. The W will light up as well. It should say on the box or in box manual glass thickness that it works on

So just because there is the "W" it does not mean that it is the wireless version? I really want to wireless version to communicate with my master/slave combo.

The max thickness is 3/8 from Vortech but there have been plenty of accolades on here of users using the MP10 on 1/2 glass...I will give it a try.

I have an MP10W ES on my 90g tank which is 5/8'' glass and it works fine.

Correct. A shady LFS near me sold me an open box mp 10 which they claimed was wireless, had the "W" which lit up. Brought it home and tried to sync it with my existing vortechs and that wasn't happening. Returned it and bought a closed box wireless from a different store and they synced up immediately. Talked to a buddy and found out that all of the ES have the W. A little misleading on vortechs part.

Thank you. This is just the information I was looking for! I took the MP 10ES back to the store and exchanged it for the wireless version.

I do agree that vortech should make a different driver for the non wireless version...it is a bit confusing. At first I thought I got a wireless version for the price of a non wireless version! :lolspin:
