Vortech Owners: Waves?

Does anyone use their vortech pumps to create an actual wave?

I suppose this doesn't have to be limited to vortech, but any controllable pump.

I have a mixed reef tank and only used my Vortechs to create waves during initial setup/testing. I run mine on reef crest.

Yes, from 4pm to 10pm I have 5 mp 60s on pulse mode. I use the apex wxm to control all my vortechs and schedule their mode. As I recall, 10-12noon (Tidal Swell), noon - 4pm (reef crest), 4 - 10pm (pulse), 12midnight -3am (slow).

I have the tunze 6255s on the opposite end. It turns out you can have the vortechs on one side and still create waves. Pretty noisy thought during some modes.

I have two mp40's and two wp25's that create a wave. It makes my wife sea sick to watch it.

I use long pulse mode anti sync on my MP10's in my 40B..

I've always stayed away from creating a waves in my tank because I have an open top, rimless tank. I thought I read somewhere that constant waves in a rimless tank are bad for the seams, though I have no proof of that being true, it has always stuck in my mind.

It is bad for the seams on glass tanks. However, acrylic tanks can take the punishment if built right.
