vortech pumps worth the price tag

a fantastic pump, so many options and so much power. Do i believe it is worth 419.00? No but i bought it and it works great.

pros: as stated above so many options with flow, wireless, synching capibilities. adjustable flow rates up to 3200gph, fish love them, great customer service.

cons: housing is cheap(dont let it get wet at all not even a drop, pump can be a little noisy (a humming sound is heard).

overall this is a great pump but i do not believe 419.00 is a fair price, maybe $300-$350.

I have had great success with this pump so far, with it in service for almost a year now with almost no maintenance. As soon as i can afford to do so I will buy another to put on the opposite end of the tank and anti-sync it with the one i have now. I haven't had any issue with the noise mentioned. Even better is when u can get a 30% off coupon at the LFS at use it on the pump!!

love em

i have 4 x vortech gen 2,s, great bit of kit and for me, well worth the money

i had tunze before, and i think they changed there manufacturer, as they were always having problems and very poor workmanship and about the same price

but a tunze cant do what a vortech does

I would agree with brandon almost to the letter. I had one for a while and thought it was awesome.

great bit of kit

I've worked with a UK guy on a number of projects and even though it has been a few years, I still notice everytime he uses the word kit. It makes complete sense and has a nice ring. You don't often hear kit used like that on this side of the pond. I kind of wish I heard it more. :)

I just received my MP20 today for my 50g breeder tank and WOW is all I can say. I was running all kimds of different sized Koralias in the past 2 years. they were ok but I wanted something like this:

How does your ATO work with the wave ? Are you experiencing any problems with that setup?

I have several of them and they work great. I was using Tunze's before and like this pump better for several reasons. It's MUCH less intrusive in the tank. The Tunze's were just big. These are so low profile. Also, you can actually see the Tunze's bouncing in the tank when they pulse. Next, I'm not worried about added heat in my tank. I also don't need to worry about any stray current from these powerheads. I also like the fact that there are no mounts, or clips for my powerheads. Grab the dry side, wet side, off I go. LMK if you have any questions.

Without question, I would buy them again.

Just bought 2 for my shallow but its not done yet so i put one in my 45 i have running for now and its awesome. I used to get alot of brown on glass daily and now its been cut down to barely any at all.

I love my mp20 in my 29g nano.

One huge advantage over any other powerhead/closed loop is the undertow flow. I love to kick up a little sand and watch the flow pattern. :)

It give you great control and is SUPER easy to use. If you don't want a wave, you have pre-set "programs" and you control the amount of flow with the turn of a knob. So easy. You can synch pumps together or put them in anti-synch mode (so they work on exact opposite cycles). They wirelessly communicate (the WMP40) with each other without the need for a separate controller. The question of price is one of approach. Certainly if you compare them to a modded MJ1200 you are comparing apples and oranges and I think it's not even worth getting into (I just can't imagine those would be the two it would come down to). If you are looking into the higher end products, I think these are fairly priced. If you look at how much we spend on livestock, I think you can easily justify the investment and creating the right environment.

Xenon - I agree about the undertow, it was the first thing I noticed.

dots - this is probably not an advanced topic, but oh well.

I am a big fan of these pumps and have two myself. People need to ease up on the price thing and if all you want to do is move water....stick with a Via Aqua. I think these are one of the most inovative products for the hobby in a long time, are a progressive company, have top notch customer service, and are on RC daily putting up with our BS.....which is above and beyond.

Quite possibly one of the best things I have purchased for my tank.

However, they are not for the "set it and forget it crowd" and have noticed these are the folks who have the biggest problems with them as if not aligned correctly, they will eat themselves up, needing a new wet end.

My biggest problem was trying to get the backup battery patch cord from Icecap......it was like pulling teeth, finally Marine Depot started carrying them.

BTW, you know they have their own forum right?
