A month ago i got my first clam , a Tridacna derasa . Its doing great , but its moving around . First i noticed that it had moved about an inch or two in one day and the next one more , and then it moved back to its original place again just to change direction and walk up to the tank wall. Is it normal for them to walk around like that. As i said its doing just fine and the mantle is huge.

Hey. It is pretty normal for clams to move around a bit. They will find a spot that is ideal for them. Many people have trouble with clams "jumping" off of the rockwork, when placed on it.

Nice clam, by the way.

I had a derasa that was about 12" long when I sold it. It did not like any particulates in the water, consequently, every time I fed it would close and shoot water on the floor. I decided that if 225 gallons could not contain his antics, he had to go!!!

I had a smaller squamosa that moved around like it had legs.

Thanks , its so cool i had no idea that clams walked around. Now it seems as it found its favourite spot . It has been at the same place for 3 days now.
