i was wondering what the biggest things i have to worrie about with water quality and will 2 48inch light fixtures be good to keep most things

for water quality for softies...the basics usually do good...salt 1.025, temp close to 80, amonia, nitrite 0 and nitrate as close to it as possible, that and a lot of flow and you should be fine. Oh and pH above 8.0...like 8.2 is good.

impossible to say without knowing what kind of lights we're talkin about... are they just normal strip lights, or are they like PC's or t5's or what?

I havent touched the calcium in my 40 for a year lol. I really havent paid any attention to it since all i've got are softies which dont use calcium as far as i'm aware. I do have a few lps and sps and they're doing fine, so i'm convinced that my calcium is at least halfways decent haha..

As for the t5's, those are t5 HO right? Or just normal output ones? If they're High Output, then you can grow quite a lot of stuff...but not if they're NO or Normal output.
