Wanted: DIY ATO Plans

I have a Reef Keeper Plus that includes an ATO option and hardware. But, I need a tested plan for the rest of the project. My sump is low at floor level and I would like at least 5 gallons and hopefully 10 gallons. The tank is in tight quarters in a corner with enough room to store the container. I'm thinking of using a tall plastic wrapping paper container and I'm trying to figure out how not to have the water syphoned out. Any suggestions with pictures?

- My ATO pump output is 6 mm, so I used a thin hose (in the picture is white).
- I fixed (the hose) higher than the water level in the tank ATO (to avoid auto-syphoned water phenomenon).
- Water flows through a 16 mm thick pipe (green color, in the picture) directly into the recirculation pump chamber.

I use a 5 gallon bucket, normally closed solenoid valve and a single float switch. My reservoir is higher than my sump so I use gravity for the water to flow.

The top has a fill valve from my storage tank. This would not be required. The other is just a vent. At the bottom is the outlet and shutoff valve.

This is the 120v solenoid valve. It is connected to a 12v relay at the float switch.

The tubing just trickles into the return chamber of the sump. I used 1/4" id tubing for the supply and inserted a short piece of ro tubing at the end in red.

Mike, that's a great set of pics. I didn't know you could put a bulk head on a curved surface like a bucket and not get any leaks. Did you do anything else to it? You definitely took the time to plan the entire set up. Thanks.

Those are uniseals and not bulkheads. They are cheap from bulkreefsupply.

I use them on all of my brutes and buckets.
