Wanted-onyx clown

Anyone know where I might find a single, small onyx or heavy black colored true percula. I had a spawning pair, but my male decided to escape. He didn't make it back to the ocean, but did manage to dry up on the carpet.
They were laying eggs every 2-3 weeks or so, but my first few batches of fry didn't make it.
Hopefully I can find a replacement and get them started again.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, you may try the breeding forum... perhaps someone there has one, or can direct you. I haven't seen one here in a long time. And even then, that was in Chicago. I don't want to speak for what's in everyones tanks, but holy cow... that's a rare one in these parts...

I have a spawning pair that has stopped due to a system re-design. If I had any juv. I would have given you one. Good luck in your search.

I have a pair I got about 3 yrs ago locally from the LFS in Appleton that closed.
They were tank raised from a guy in Appleton and he did join the club and I saw him at the meeting at Lisa's but don't think Ive seen him post since. I'm sorry I don't remember his name.
I don't think he's breeding them anymore though anyway.

These are siblings and I had no idea they were onyx when I bought them cuz they did'nt turn black until they matured.

Ive posted these picts before on RC and had people want them but I'm not selling them.
Even though they'r siblings the female is almost all black and the male has alot more orange.

Heres a site for rare clowns that might be able to help.

I thought that guy Ron who makes the special food in Ill. raises rare clowns.

I myself like the snowflake and the jigsaw.

Nice pics

Nice pics

Thanks for all the input, let me know if any one sees any. Last one I saw locally was at animal adventures in Green Bay in a small display tank a while back.

The pictures Kass is showing and the one you seen at Animal adventures are both offspring from my pair.

Kass, thanks for the picture it is good to see how they are maturing. The female of my spawning pair looks almost exactly like yours.

Thanks for posting Dave.
I did'nt realize you were the guy I got them from lol I forgot your RC name.

The place in IL is Rod's Reef. He has a website. Just google Rods Reef. He usually has many of them because of his constantly breeding pair. Hope this helps.

You may want to try one of the members of the East TN Reef Club as well: Fishboy42.

I believe he's breeding the Onyx clowns (in addition to a lot of others).

Ken, If you find more than 1 in your travels and searching, let me know, I'd be game to try a pair. I have several other pairs if anyone is interested in swaping, but my breeding sucess is nil. nada. zero.

I started with Maroons, and was encouraged by Mako, but even my percs and Skunks are inactive. I think I need to change to something with more success, then revisit the tougher stuff later.

Thank you all for the input, I ordered 1 juvenile from Rods-reef today, should arrive Tuesday morning.

Jason, Hang in there! Do you use the naked tank method? My spawning success has come in tanks with live rock, sand, an anemone and another small fish or two. More natural to make them more comfortable? I have had spawning success with Maroons and Perculas this way. I am currently working on pairs of polymnus and ocellaris(I think?) I will keep you all posted of any future success.

Thanks again,
Ken

I have the 40 gals now stocked with about 1/2 full ov live rock. I tried the bare method for months, no success. I've had the rock in for about 10 months going on 11. No sucess. There is still no substrate though. The lighting is no where near adequate for an anenome though. I'm not completely sold on the have to have one therory.

I currently have 5 pairs of Maroons, 2 bairs of Tomatoes, a pair of Skunks and a pair of Ocellaris. My Maroons are VERY mature. The smallest female is over 3".

I was thinking of adding a pair or 2 of Clarkii - If anyone has a pair or a pair of something else, I' be willing to talk.

Jason

BTW thanks Kass, I signed up over on that site. Not sure if I'll be abble to keep up with visiting there, the site Jessica is pushing, Tanlking reef and here though. Thats alot of info to consume.

I would be happy to help any of you will your clownfish breeding attempts. I have spawned and raised Percula, Ocellaris, clark, Maroon, and just recently Orange skunks.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will help if I can.

Dave

Scott, you can't see it, but that's a 2x6 between the tanks. They rarely see each other.

Dave, I appreciate the offer. I ment to talk to you at the last meeting... don't remember which one.. think I saw you at the one at craigs place... I was going to, then I turned around and you were gone, and me wife was pulling my shirt sleve toward the door.

I'm open to suggestions, someone recommended an active pair, but that's enought to stop them from breeding all together. Sometiimes I swear their going thru the motions, but I can't find the result...

Mako said he couldn't understand it either. I think they just don't like me... or someone knows, like my tank keeping practices, but is afraid to tell me, your invited to the meeting. I take constructive criticizm well, and I will listen. Probably a good thing I don't have 1000 baby Maroons running around, Mako can't seem to get rid of the few he has.
