water changes - how often to remove nitrates

My tank is now 9 weeks old,
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates are between 20-40 and can't seem to get them lower.
I use RO/DI.
I have a fuge with chaeto, have done 2 water changes of about 30% of the water volume about a month apart.
Just have a clean up crew in there now, hardly feed at all, so there is no overfeeding problem.
How often should I do water changes to remove the nitrates and get them as close to 0 as possible?
Thanks!

hi-simon, ive looked through my log recently on nitrate and it was nearly 4 months before i got 0, perhaps you just need to keep water changing and it will slowly come down, just a thought

I'd adopt a regular routine of changes, 5-10 % a week, and give the tank time to balance, probably in the range of five-six months all else being equal.

I was told to do back to back water changes, take out 20%, put in, run for a whilte, repeat. I am doing that now, I have a 180 gallon tank, just took out 25%, relled, making more water, going to do it again later today,

Agreed, it will take time but get on a good regimen of water changes.
