Water Evaporation?

I was wondering if evaporation and top off water is essential to proper water parameters. I've seen many posts were people are doing a gallon per day or every other day.

My tank evaporates very little. I only have basic lighting but the tank is running around 80 degrees. I pretty much keep the top completely covered (except for cutouts for the filter and powerheads) and my wet/dry is covered as well. Should I "air out" the tank a little more to promote more evaporation?

With a covered tank and sump your evaporation loss would be low. Keep in mind however that this also reduces the gas exchange that takes place. More exposure = good = more evaporation IMHO.

Watch your water parameters... If things are healthy and good then I would not worry to much about it. If you are regular about your water changes you should doing fine. Maybe increase the circulation in the upper level of the tank with a power head, that would likely increase evaporation.
