Yes that's fine there are lots of options! Even Rubbermaid trash cans work and they come with lids.
Here are what I use.

I'd worry about evaporation. If you mix it and then store it for a long time, it'll evaporate, so the salinity will creep up. With a lid or cover you won't have to worry about that.

I just tried to do the store locate and there is no store within 100 miles of my house. I did not go out any further. Are these stores all out west or are there one on the east coast? Probally out where the farms and amish are. Ill try lancaster area.
