Water strorage container

I'm looking for a plastic drum for water storage and am having no luck finding one locally here. I'll be driving thru Chicago this weekend and was wondering if there was any place to pick one up at a decent price up there?

Farm and Fleet have tanks of all sizes. I use a 35g leg tank for my top off water. Works well.

Hmmm, the farm and fleet around here went out of business, but the other farm stores only have larger containers and they all seemed pretty expensive. What kind of price was the 35g?

If you do not need a closed container and can use an open stock tank....Menards has them in 50,70 and 100g versions. They range from $45ish and up for those. I bought a 100g stock tank for $67, 2 weeks ago from Menards.

I just use a rubbermaid Brute garbage can. Very durable, good quality and good sizes and come with a lid to keep the dust out.. I keep my fresh RODI in a 44 gallon and use another 44 gallon for salt make up.

Any Home Depot would have them for under $50. You can order the wheel casters as well so the container can be rolled around if you want.

There's a hot pepper place in Bridgeview that gives away 35-55 Gallon Food Grade Plastic drums for Free.. Just Drive by and Grab 'em...

You just have to rinse 'em out..

Do you ever get that slime build up that I have seen on most of the brute garbage cans?

I prefer the HDPE tanks that Farm and fleet sells.

Rod - I did have that issue once using Oceanic Salt. Since then I have switched to Kent (one bucket) and finally to Reef Crystals and have not had that issue. I do have the standard white calcium deposits, but those clean up easily.

Do the HDPE tanks at F&F have lids? If so, that may be a better option.

Mine has a lid on it doubledown. It is a horizontal leg tank. Has a lid and a bulkhead/drain. I have a mag3 hooked to the drain and it turns on every morning at 6 for 20 minutes to stir my kalk up. I use the container of course for my evap. A reef-filler draws from the leg tank and keeps the level steady in my sump within a 16th of an inch.

Works for me.
