Water Temperature

Here is the issue, my tank is a bit hot it is usually at 80.2-80.4 (but it spiked yesterday to 82.3) since my house temp went from 72 to 76 degrees, and I have not been able to get it back down.

Heres my issue I want to put a cooler in to drop the average temp to 76-77 degrees, however I have no where to put it. The tank (105) is in my office and I have a sump under it with 3 large pumps and a skimmer. I would drill a hole in the wall and put it in the room behind it but I cannot go though that wall since the other side is my family room and well that will not float. Is there anything I can do to cool my tank that would not take up to much room by the sump, something I can mount on the stand next to my ozone maker, skimmer, uv, and everything else.

a ziplock bag filled with ice in the sump works for me. your temp. range is not extremely high. ocean temps. range from 76-84 so youre not in any immeadiate danger at 82.3 so, i would try the ice first before drilling any holes. JMO!

I think you are ok. 82 is not too high, but if it got any higher then I would start to be concerned.

You can use clip on fans. Like the ones you see at Target or something. Clip them on to the side of the sump so they are pointed at the surface of the water. Two fans dropped my 65G significantly below room temp. I did have to dramatically increase the amount of fresh water top offs, which you will also need to do.

I run my tanks at 74F so getting the temp down with out a chiller is something I've been doing for years.

My chiller is out of action for the past couple of days and I was amazed what 2 7 inch fans from Walmart did to the temp! My new sump is also in the basement which helps the temp. good luck

I have a window fan that has two fans in it and its own temp I set it at 80dg and it turns on and then back off on its own there around 30.00 $$$ I even have used computer fans and they work great also the best way is to make your tank evorate more and top off with cold water it helps alot !
I have the fan blow on the water to help with evop.

Ice might help, TODAY. But pushin 80 seems kinda high to me. The higher the temp the less the O2!

Thanks for all your help just got 2 small clip fans and wow it is at 77.5 -77.8. That did make a huge difference.

82 is not really high guys. I run my tanks at 81 to 83 degrees and target 82 which is very close to most coral reefs.

If you have good circulation with the top surface of the water getting moved and have a sump with a waterfall (or similar) you shouldn't have any oxygen problems. If you are concerned with the amount of oxygen in the tank pick up an O2 test kit.

I think most of us here target between 79 and 81 for our year round temp. No reason to go any lower than that.
