what type of silicone do you use to seal tanks off with

100% silicone. It should be available from any hardware store. It comes in lots of colots, white, clear or black. I use clear. As long as it says 100% silicone it is the right stuff (don't pay 4x the price for the stuff at the lfs).

thanks for the quick response. I'm always looking for cheaper alternatives to the stuff LFS sell. I just wanted to confirm I was thinking of the right stuff.

you can get a big tube for $8 and get some sleap at night knowing that it won't fall apart unless your just making something small

javatech, the silicon at the hardware stores are the same thing just cheaper.

they are teh exact same. a guy in my glub made a 300 gallon frag tank and his total silicone bill for the whole project was $12 from the hardware store.

They all come from the same factory. They just pack it per there customers specifications.

In fact Lowe's sale's aquarium silicone right next to the GE silicone. same stuff.

if you get the home depot stuff remember get the stuff for Doors & Windows, NOT Kitchen & Bath. Big difference since the K&B version has anti fungicides or something it it.

That's all good but can anyone prove it's the same stuff
if he spent 12 $ then he got 4-5 tubes in the overall cost of our tanks i'd rather spend $40 for the five tubs and try to save some were other than the one thing that holds $4000 ++ togther
but that's just me

LOL... sorry but your just throughing away 5 bucks doing it that way... ALOT of folks have been using silicone for years, I never lost any sleep over it.... Save your money and put it twords something important like a skimmer.

I have to agree here its all the same stuff.. As long as you dont buy the stuf with bioguard or any mold inhibitors for that matter. I've only built one tank but I've built probably 30 sumps over the years for people.. Never had a single problem.. AGA doesn't make there own silicone I'm sure.. Dow or GE or who ever else I'm sure makes it for them and just prints AGA on the Tube..
