Wave maker recommendations?

Probably a question been asked a million times, but curious to see what people say.

I initially built my 20 long with one giant Jebao old school pump that I had in a 75 gallon. It did the job but was pretty ugly so I “upgraded” it with a Jebao cross flow.

I’m kinda not happy with the cross flow pump. It’s loud, it actually doesn’t work consistently, and it’s actually a little too strong even at the weakest setting. I bought a second one hoping that maybe I just got a dud, but I’m sending it back since I can’t even get it to function without an error code

I think I’m too the point that I’m just going to get rid of the cross flows for something else. Preferably more that one so I can get a little better random flow.

Past couple weeks I’ve been scrolling through Amazon, BRS and the usual suspects trying to find a pair of things that would do the job. Thought maybe I would run it by you fine people to see what everyone’s opinion is. You can check my setup on my build thread if that helps any.

Thanks.

I have a Jebao Crossflow as well but only used it for a short time. I found it seized up frequently, even when regularly cleaned. I will say, every other Jebao product I've owned I've been very happy with but this one just requires too much maintenance IMO.

I simply use two Jebao Powerheads such as the PP-8 (at least that's what I think I have on the tank). Some of their newer powerheads such as the SLW Series have a lower profile than their previous versions.

That’s basically my findings as well. Just not real happy with it.

Have you seen the new Jebao MP clones? I think they are called the Dmp.

No one here has seen them/used the DMPs as far I know. I ordered 2 different sizes and will report when they get here.
For a 20l
Jebao SLW-10 or PP-4
Vortech MP-10
Your Choice aquatics EW-10
I have never used any of these except MP-10. I have used bigger ones of all of them. Those seem like good stuff and have worked over a year for me. The MP-10s ran a decade or more. That doesnt mean they are better. I just had them the longest. I used them in a 30 cube.

In my 20L I used Maxijet 1200s with random flow directors. A thing that spins with water driven gears in it. No small wave makers then.

Nice tank!

Thanks for discussing with me. Have you seen or used the Nero clone DLW Jebao? I’ve been holding my finger over the DLW but not sure.

No I haven't. Jebao makes so many kinds. I have used several, many not sold anymore. Right now I have PP, SOW and SLW wave makers in use. I just purchased some SLW 30s. I have never used Neros either.
Vortechs have become too expensive for me to handle. I have neurological issues and drop things. I broke a MP 60 and MP 40 dryside dropping them. I got 2 DMP 60 and 2 of a smaller size for less that 1 MP 60 dryside motor to repair it. I know because I got that too. Cant leave it broken because I am stupid.
I get Jebaos on Fish Street, Chewy and Amazon. Mostly because Fish Street had them before Amazon and Chewy puts them on sale sometimes.

I run Jebao SLW-20’s and 30’s. Honestly not sure of the difference between SLW and DLW other than possibly the Bluetooth/looks like the DLW has a digital screen?

I ran a cross flow (70? I think). It worked when clean but quickly clogged and I’ve since taken it out.

I’ve looked at the DMPs but don’t have the spare cash currently to buy them (plus my tank is a stock tank currently and curved edges are already a pain with the SLW magnet lol

I have a cross flow (SCP-70) running for just under 2 years. I haven't even cleaned it. I love it and actually just bought another one. I have two MLW-10 in my other tank. One of them won't except programming anymore and will only run in manual mode. It also seems half as powerful as the other one now. I just did an extended vinegar bath on it and it's still the same. I guess there's some hit and miss with any of these. I know I'll never buy an AI Nero again, that one straight up tanked.

Wave makers can be tuned to make a wave and throw water on the floor. The Maxspect Gyres needed constantly cleaned or the flow would fall way off.
