It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Wow! That's all I can say.
So after the kids went to bed, I started to set up my WB, around 8:30. Went to bed at 12:30.
First, I fixed my dursos. Pushed them way down in the box. Water in the box dropped, tank level virtually unchanged. Hmmm. Raised them way up. Not only did the level in the tank stay the same, but they are MUCH quieter now. Yay!
Second, Cleaned the teeth on the overflow convinced I'd not be able to run the box without a dremel to make them go deeper. Cleaned them good with razor blade.
Third, cut flow out of one of my return lines by maybe 25%. Guessing from 1000GPH out of that line to around 700 but hard to tell. Level dropped about 1/8" in the tank.
That left me with about 3/4" on one side of the tank. Figured to risk it and give it a go with my new toy.
Set the box to max setting and turned it on. A little wave, no problem with the level. Nice rocking motion.
Tap the dial a tad lower, barely a tap. Rocking noticably changes but only a little.
Tap again. Same.
Tap again. HOLY CRAP! The whole tank hums nicely with a rock that goes about 1/2" down and 1/2" up. Little bit more and the rocking just kisses the bottom of the plastic rim!
Oh man does the tank look good! Rocking back and forth with great circulation all over the place. Oh crap. My MJ Stream Swirls are both still running. I was supposed to take one off to sell. Oh crap. This looks so good there is no way I can mess with it.
10pm. Sit watching the tank. 5min later I sigh and start to disassemble the MJ Stream Swirl. Wait, did I say 5min? Why does the clock say 11:15? Oh man! Crap this looks nice. Do I really have to take it off???
Off comes the MJ Stream. Out comes the swirl. Look at the stream. Look at Wavebox box. Hey, I can use the Tunze rails and mount this stream on the back wall, free up more rock space wiht the swirl gone for more SPS, and keep the flow if not the swirl. I'll have a box, a MJ Stream Swirl, and a MJ Stream. Ok.
Hook up the rails, take my DIY tunze mount from the DIY mount to the swirl and latch it onto the rails, plug it in. Nothing. Darn. Take off the cap and impeller, clean the prop, put back on plug in. Nothing. Take turkey baster and squirt it a few times. Presto! And hey, quieter than before! No hum even. Moving better water too, based on old Tunze 6060 effect on polyps and sand est the pump at 1800 GPH.
Woo-Hoo! Water kissing the rim still on the bottom side, none creeping over. Overflows nicely maxed and silent. Not bad at all!
Step back to look. 11:45. ok 5 more minutes to enjoy.
Hey, why does the clock say 12:30. Crap! I have to teach 3 classes tomor... uh... today.
This is an awesome combination. I est I'm getting a wave of about 1.25" total. I'm getting turbulence from the MJ stream swirl. Nice steady directional flow at my SPS from the stationary MJ Stream. And the back corners are being hit by the full return flow of a combined 1800 GPH or so. (may switch the directions around later we'll see!). Tank is quieter, and corals rocking back and forth.
If I sell those two swirls, and I sold a colt, a cannister filter, and have a phosban reactor still to sell for $25, I got this at an out of pocket of about $125. That comes from tomorrow (happy birthday to me!)
This looks so nice I had to share. Oh what fun!
