I have a 45 gallon tank and purchased a gyre pump. Any tips on aiming it and what kind of schedule or program I should have it on?

I like to point upwards so the thrust breaks the top of your water.
This promotes good gas exchange, helps to remove carbon dioxide and thus elevates PH.

I also point some at rocks, or dead areas to keep them free of crap.

For me, I like random variable flows.

I have several going on and off at different times but yes, at least one going all the time. My water never still except feeding time 30 minutes

With any pump the best luck I had was to try to adjust for as much random turbulence as possible, experimenting quite a bit. A hitch with aiming up can be salt creep, depending on depth in the tank.
