Wavemaker selection advice

Setting up a RSR 250, and researching what wavemakers to get. After looking around for hours, getting some conflicting information and hoping someone can help with advice.

I'm looking at the Vortech mp10 & mp40 as well as the Neptune WAV. I'll be getting an Apex, so want wavemakers I can hook in if possible.

Issue seems to be that the mp10 isn't enough flow, but the mp40 and WAV will be too strong...

Anyone running these on the RSR 250 that can chime in with advice?

I have the RSR 350 & have REMOVED the MP40's tried a single MP40 went to Neptunes WAV to strong again even at the lowest setting of 5% (MP40's Lowest setting is 20%) would really loved to have tried the GYRE but after reading all the quality issues ended up with the Tunze Turbelle 6055

I really wanted to try my mp10's but didn't want to go through the trouble of removing them from my fusion 40 & kinda regret it cuz although the 2 Tunzes 6055 work great I do NOT have the same functionality as the mp40's or the neptune wav's

If you are going to have a SPS dominated tank I would go with the MP10's for that tank...even if you want softies or LPS I would still stick with the MP10's just in case you end up with some SPS

I have a RSR 250

I was using a Gyre 150 that was left over from my other tank. I discontinued it because it's been unreliable for me. It was a lot of flow and it kicked up sand from the opposite end of the tank; but there was dead spots directly under the Gyre though. I think 2 of the smaller versions on opposing sides would have been better.

I switched to 2 Mp40s and I'm really impressed with them. I run them at 50% for an SPS dominated tank. I get tons of flow everywhere.

Thanks for the advice so far! Anyone running a WAV on a RSR 250?

I own the Neptune WAV and the are to strong for my 350 so I removed them, I don't think you need that much flow in your 250...if you want random flow patterns then maybe 2 MP10's would work perfectly...I think to buy 2 MP40's & not be able to crank them up to 80 or even 100% is a waste of money

Yeah seems like the WAV is just too strong, which is a shame.

That's the debate now, the MP10 vs. the MP40. A lot of people with this tank using one or the other. May end up getting one of each...

I also own 2 MP40's and played with them on my RSR 350...I personally believe that they are too strong again they are on the same level as the WAV's but stronger and more diverse...the only real benefit of the WAV's is that they can be lowered to 5% whereas all Vortech's minimum is 20% even if your planning an SPS tank for the RSR 250 I would get 2 MP10's if you get the MP40 you won't be running them past 50% if that much I had my MP40's on my RSR 350 with a mixed reef down to 30% MAX anything higher and corals would not extend any polyps...
