We need your Algae Photos!

The RC Team is putting together FAQs for several forums to improve the content of Reefcentral. One of my personal projects has been the creation of a Macroalgae and Nuisance Microalgae FAQ and ID guide. The writing for the guide has been completed for some time but I have had much trouble getting consent to use pictures from members here on RC.

So, if you're a photo geek, have a large gallery of shots to choose from, or just want your work to be seen by more than a few people please contact me! We need your photos!

Photo source will always be noted in the FAQs (you'll be famous!); most likely using your RC handle.

I'm looking for representative (clear, large format, preferably single subject) images of the following genuses:

Gracilaria
Udotea (mermaids fan)
Penicillus
Halimeda
Dinoflagellates
Diatom
Cyanobacteria (not as stromatolites)
Caulerpa prolifera
Chaetomorpha
Chlorodesmis
any interesting red macroalgaes

This is just a short list for an idea of what I still need. I have a number of photos already, but am hoping for a few more yet.

Please attach photos in email (outside of RC) and send to sarah at seanursery dot com.

Thanks in advance!

Samala, I'm 20min from you. My camera is old and doesn't take good pics, but you're welcome to come take some pics of my wife's tank. It's got HA and some sort of red algea (not Cyano) growing in it.

I have no idea what some of these are, but maybe they'll be of use to you.

Oh excellent!! Thanks everyone for posting some photos! Now I have a few to choose from.

Still looking for a few others.. Penicillus.. Udotea.. and hopefully some more cool reds. Though you have all shown some interesting turf reds. :) Thank you!

Sarah I just emailed you my picture account hopefully it works, also a list of species which I can take pics of. I forgot to mention I also have rhodymenia.

I wanted to thank everyone for their generous contributions to the project! I've received quite a slew of photos and I have more than enough to complete the guide. Thank you for helping RC!
