I have been in contact with some very informative people regarding me bringing these in and their care. Just wondering if anyone else has a contact regarding long term care of these.

IMO, it would be a shame to make these creatures available to mainstream hobbyists. The huge tanks needed combined with the costs of chiling their tanks makes them cost-prohibitive to the majority of hobbyists.

What I'm afraid will happen is people with little/no experience will attempt to house them in unfavorable conditions due to either their lack of knowledge or lack of money to set up a proper tank. Most people try to cut corners or "push the envelope" at times in this hobby. This is one creature you cannot do that with. Period.

I would think that the cost of the animal itself would make it prohibitive and we might avoid some of this altogether. Those that an afford the animals, should be able to afford their setups. At least that's what I'd hope.

I seriously doubt these will be available to the "mainstream hobbyist" anytime in the near future. They are too protected and only a VERY small amount are allowed out each year. It took me a very long time to get a hold of these. They are amazing creatures... As far as your comment about cost..... They are not available to anyone, they cost a small fortune, temperature has to hold very cold with little fluctuations, Three chillers on the system.... I believe in back up etc., etc.. I have about $500 out on food and this is just for the time being. I would not be to afraid of "people with little/no experience" getting ahold of them. There just are not that many around. With that said I would like to thank all of the people who responded by posting and all of the PM's. As much as I appreciate the Pm's on how much are they? Please refrain from anymore along those lines. They are not for sale.
