Weight issues?

Is it recommended to reinforce the floor where a saltwater tank + sump is going to be located? We're moving into an older house with a basement and don't want our system to get set up on the first floor and then crash into the basement.

The basement is unfinished and gnarly, so it's definitely not going to be set up down there. We want it in the living room (corner)--unless there's going to be a support issue.

If its a large tank, over 100g I would definetly look into it. Many people do add braces under there tanks.

Could you post a picture of what the floor system looks like under where the tank will be going. Also, the size of the lumber would be a big factor as to what you need to do. Along with tank size.

Check out the tank of the month he has a nice pole system with supports .

You could add additional support in the basement and parlay it into shelves so you can have a basement sump set-up. That's what I think I'm going to do when I set-up my 125g.

I added a couple of jack stands under the joists
That support our tank. I sleep better at night now.
Best $100 that I spent.
