My anenome is up at the top of the tank - and appears to be happy there as he's been there for quite a while.

However today I spotted something different on him. Kinda a white/tan looking spot on him. I will attempt to post pictures

Hard to get a good picture.
But basically rather than the brown foot skin, or pink inside skin - this looks more like terrycloth and is whiter/beige than the brown foot skin - and is not pink like the inside skin of the anenome.

Do anenome's exhibit something like this when they split?

I figured out what he is doing.

He's 3/4 in the tank, and 1/4 in the overflow - thru the grate.

Any suggestions on how to return him to the tank and not kill him?

Good advice FlightPipe. He's almost all the way out of the return now. Just a tiny strand that needs to release and come out.

I have had the return off since about 2pm today. I turned it on for about 5 minutes at 4:45pm - until the ph balanced - and then turned it off again.

It's now 10:15 pm - and I have an air stone in the main display - and also turned on the tank for about 10 minutes until the ph balanced at about 8pm.

Just completed a 30 gallon water change on the 200 gallon main display.

Now I am just waiting for the Anemone to get out of the return completely and then I can go to bed and turn the return back on.

During this time - I have turned the 400W Metal Halides off as I didn't want to "cook" the anemone as the part in the return was out of the water while the returns are off.

I agreed with the turning off the pumps and letting it get out.. however i dont know how many hours without flow your on now or what inhabits your tank but depending on those two factors, it might be Manual gentle removal time. try ice cubes gentle massages etc..

just massage the cube on the foot or whatever part that is stuck in the return, they dont like the cold but its not harmful.. the idea is it will move away from the ice.. may take some time 15 mins or so.
