Hello, the link contains pic of wellso. Notice the bottom left skeleton exposed. In this pic it is still closed and just waking...looks healthy and expands wherever flesh remains. Suspecting there may be some flow bias on that side but attached a video of hammers (about half way expanded) to give idea of flow rates. I don't see any motion of the flesh when expanded so don't really believe too much flow.

Been in tank 5 weeks. Moved from one sand bed location to another at second week when first spotted receding.

Leave it be, can they stop receding? Or is it a gonner in time?

Inverts in the tank in case of suspects but have not caught any foul play...
Serpent star, fire shrimp, emerald crab,

Added pictures when full out to same link. Notice it is shaded on that side at peak light as hammer is full out. Shade hurting?

Is the flesh hitting the rock next to it when it opens up? That will cut them up and make them recede, plus make them more susceptible to infections. Needs to be far enough away from rocks that it doesn't come into contact with them when it's fully opened. Keep in mind that it can expand a lot at night sometimes, about 2-3x the size than in your photo.

Yeah it is touching on the health side, so I will move back to area and try to perch on a pvc stand seeing other references that sand bed can irritate?

Add pics today second is under an incandescent flash light bulb. The part with die off how do I identify and treat infection?

I would do a Revive dip, put it in the shade and feed it every other day to see if it helps turn things around. Everyone I know keeps theirs on the sand so I doubt that's the issue imo

Thanks for advise, started with shade and feeding. Will keep posting pics on progress. Added pics today of healthy side and and side with roached tissue.

Regarding feeding - target feed some BRS Reef Chili (powder grained) and spotted three mouths that opened slightly then closed so sure it caught something. Any other feeding tips? I don't see it extend any tentacle...should I?

You don't want to feed powder food, I'd recommend either a tiny pinch of pellet food or some frozen mysis shrimp with all the pumps off.
