Went to the Zoo Today

I went to the Nashville Zoo today and took about 200 pics. I kept about 85 of them cause they were either fun or I really liked the compositions. These are probably my favorites of the set though.

It's just a "cheap" little Nikon D3100. The main point to the trip, other than being fun, was to try out a 70-300 lens I bought. All the shots were taken with it.

overall some great stuff...for a Nikon :) (LOL). Good stuff, a few compositional things I might have changed but really the colors, contrast and shots in general look good. Were the people with you or just randoms shots?

Yeah, there's definitely some stuff I have to learn. Considering it's only my second time really going out to take "photographs" and not "pictures" though, I felt pretty good about it. First time using the lens or doing non-tank based wildlife too.
The animals have a tendency to not cooperate and I'm not Mr. Patient so my composition definitely suffers from that! :) Please comment on it though, I would really like to learn more and what to work on.
The people were just random shots where I tried to capture what was going on around me. Got some weird looks when shooting the kids in particular, but oh well.

you're off to a great start. Yeah, patience becomes a huge factor with wildlife, or even landscapes sometimes waiting for the right light.Just keep shooting and shooting. keep in mind sometimes moving just an few inches to the right or left cn really change the composition of an image.
