Wet/Dry

I was wondering if I should keep the filter in my wet/dry with the bio balls. It seems that it needs unclogged almost daily. Do I actually need that thing?

yeah its a filter pad above the bio-balls.

You can remove it , and i would also removethe bio-balls because they tend to become nitrate factories, if you choose to do so, do it slowly over a period of weeks, so your wet dry functions as a sump to which you could grow some macro algae and a DSB for extra filtration.

Well, Even if I keep the bioballs is it safe to keep out the filter?

for the time being I would like to keep the bioballs untill I decide to do a sump.

How often are you changing out the filter pad? If you take out the filter all that stuff that is clogging it up will just be staying in your tank.

i've only had it for about 2 weeks and I have to clean it out every couple of days. I think its causing more problems than good.

i would not take the filter pads out.they are used to trap all the bad stuff before the water goes to the bio balls.the bio balls are for bio filtration and should be kept clean.the pads are for mechanical filtration.i clean my pads every other day also and change them once a month.it helps to keep the nitrates down.i make my filter pads out of felt material ,i buy at wal mart for about 2 dollars a yard.

I'll have to remember that one joe. instead of paying $10 everytime I go to the lfs.
