WetPets

Hey everyone, I was thinking of taking a trip to WetPets tomorrow. But before I make the drive I wanted to know if its worth the effort. I live about 20min from Elmer's so I've bought most of my stuff from there. I've been pretty happy with Elmer's thus far but their coral selection isn't the greatest imo. I've heard WetPets is somewhat pricey but I'm willing to spend more for higher quality pieces. So I guess my question is, does WetPets have a coral selection that justifies a 1.5 hour drive? Thanks in advance for any info =]

If you are into larger colonies of LPS, yes. Not many frags for sale there. I just go to look at the pair of Borbonius Anthias they have in the display tank (wish I could find one at any price).

My tank is mainly LPS and I've never seen a Boronius in person so i suppose thats reason enough to make the trip. Thanks

It's a very very nice store. The prices on the fish are not bad. The prices on the coral are up there tho.

Their display tank is BEA-UTIFUL though.

If you live 20 minutes from elmers it will not take you 1.5 hours to get there unless you go at rush hour or drive 20 miles an hour.

Last Saturday I was at the meeting at elmers and it took me 35 minutes to get home. I live 5 minutes north or wet pets.

If you go I-79 south and get off at the Southpointe exit it is like 5 mins from the interstate to Route 19 and Wet Pets.

Yeah lol I was thinking it was farther away than it actually was. It ended up only being about an hour drive. Overall I really liked the place. It seemed to be very clean and the staff was helpful. Their corals were a bit overpriced imo but the fish were beautiful and well priced. The display tanks were worth the trip alone . I came home with a gorgeous pair of perc's and I'll definitely go there for fish again. As for corals, I think I like Aquaworld the most out of the three stores I've been to.

Yea thats almost the exact same experience I had. My father had work to do out towards Wet Pets and stopped in one day. He called me when he got home and said "You have to check out this place. It's amazing"

Me and the wife were very impressed. It's very clean and has a great selection of fish. The fish are competetivly priced and looked healthy for the most part. They even had a decent selection of healthy anemones. The all LED DT was gorgoues.

I would not go there for corals though.

We ended up going to Elmers and then to Aquaworld afterwards to pick up some corals.

Wet pets store is unrivaled in the area for its cleanliness and the overall "high end" feel to it's displays. Aquaworld is a hole. It is a shame that none of the stores have really moved in to compete with Aquaworld for nice corals, because I refuse to give them my business. Of course, I could probably count on one hand the number of pieces in my aquarium (I think there's something like 30 or 40 total, if not more) that have come from places other than other hobbiest's aquariums...

Speaking of aquaworld, I really hate to bash a business but when I saw a brown BTA labeled "tongan rare bubble tip, 200$", I walked right out the door and refuse to shop there again.

Oh I know, Aquaworld is extremely dirty. If they don't have the doors open and fans running I can hardly stand the smell. And honestly I don't know how they get away with keeping snakes inside of plastic storage bins with no lighting... Part of me hates giving them my business but their corals are just so much nicer than anywhere else around. The prices are well within reason as well. 5 zoa/polyp frags for 20.00 is deal compared to Elmer's 9.99 bubble algae frags.

I would rather have a store that is dirty and smelly that sells really nice corals for a good price than a fancy store with over priced corals.

As far as the other animals there I can't comment as I never look at anything other than the fish/corals.

Well I can vouch for a really great up and coming store in altoona that not only is hospitable toward their pets but are also EXTREMELY affordable with their corals and equipment. I was recently at aquaworld and I will never go back due to how they treat the animals. Id rather spend a little more to drive and get corals than give business to a bunch of people who really have no right to continue their business until they get the store cleaned up and actually keep ALL the animals in better conditions.

BTW the store in altoona is called Coral Reef Keepers. I have just recently stumbled on that place and honestly they have the best corals iv'e seen anywhere in PA so far.

Also If anybody wanted to get anything from there in the future I frequent altoona (My family lives there) I would be more than happy to get some corals or livestock when I go for anyone who want \s something.
