What are the chances of dull chalices coloring up?

The Escaped Ape

In The Canopy
I'm based in Japan, where there aren't many imported. Those that are can be a bit dull on the store websites. Is there much chance that in the right tank with the right lighting they'll color up significantly?

Here are some examples, on sale from a store I've not ordered from before. They're all about $40 each.

Chalices that are already very colorful are rare and, when they appear, cost a lot. This attached one is going for about $150.

Ah well. I guess I'll have to wait for the really pretty ones to turn up and splash out. Either that or appreciate the "subtle beauty" of ones like the top example.

Thanks for the input anyway.

there is a very good chance of coral coming back and coloring up nicely if your parameters are good and your lighting sufficient.
I will show you my before and after pics of a chalice i got as a frag from a friend and you judge for yourself.

The 2nd and 3rd one looks like they could color up and be at least be the bright gold type chalices which would be a good deal for $40

Thanks for the input eferna - you've done a great job with that chalice! I don't think the ones I posted are in such a bad state, though possibly the second one's not looking so happy. Good to see that it's possible for them to change substantially though.

Thanks! Great to get another point of view.

I'll have a think before taking the plunge though. I'm planning to go barebottom in the next couple of weeks, so will decide once things have stablised in the tank again.

I had had coral that takes weeks/months to recover from browning out from shippment and what have you
