What are the differences between Oceanic and Regular tanks?

At the LFS that I usually go to, a "regular" 75G costs $150 and a Oceanic 75G costs $200. Anyone knows what are the differences between these two? Quality differences?

Brand Equity, my friend. Oceanic, although now owned by All Glass (which in turn is owned by Central Pet & Garden, which in turn is like a mothership to Kent Marine, ESU, Coralife, AGA, Oceanic etc}, has built a solid reputation for quality tanks.

There was a noticeable difference at one point in time, but I have not seen a tank come out of the new factory as of yet.

They literally just moved over these last few weeks.

I have one on order. I should be getting it within the next few weeks. I can let you know then.

before the buy out Oceanic tank where built like bricks. they used thicker glass, and the seams were always perfect. they were like the Cadillac of tanks. i have not seen one since the buy out. hopefully the quality stays the same.

im not a mathmatician but i would say 50.00.
all kidding aside my 37 is thicker glass, better built, complete seal around plastic to trim

I know the 72 Oceanic bowfront I have has a 5 year warranty but the 72 All Glass bowfront has a 1 year warranty. And since my 72 Oceanic busted the centerbrace after 3 years, I'm glad it was an Oceanic and not an All Glass.

I had an oceanic tank years ago that was chipped on the corner by movers... It held water for the next 4 years without a problem. I hope the quality today is equal to what it was then...

Id prefer All-Glass over Perfecto tanks, because they have better qualtiy.

Does anyone know the specifics of the Oceanic tanks that were made in Texas?

I was looking for things like glass thickness, quality of trim, dry weight, top bracing.

There is a completely different group of people, in a different manufacturing facility making these tanks now. What was true in the past may no longer be true in the future. I am curious if they are still using black sealant, and the edges mitered or straight cut, Are the overflows the same?

I spoke with the LFS again yesterday and the tank should be here next Thursday the 14th. I plan to stop in and check everything out. If it looks great, I will go home with it.

The LFS also ordered a tank from the Guys that used to run the Custom shop at Oceanic in TX. They broke off and started thier own company when Oceanic moved to Milwaukee. We are getting a tank from them also, and I will make my decision once I can compare the two.

I dunno about that...........I recently compared 55g. AGA and Perfecto tanks side by side at my LFS and could see no real quality difference between them except that the AGA was more expensive. Actually, the Perfecto tank had 100% tempered glass whereas the AGA only had a tempered bottom. I think the Perfecto also came with a longer warranty, so I bought the Perfecto and have been happy with it so far.
