Im new to saltwater in general I plan on running a FOWLR for the time being and if all goes well start adding some hardy coral down the road. I was just wondering should i be worried about these. They appear to be amithopods (sp?) or are they baby mantis shrimp. They appear that they like to hang around the micor algae. Is that algae valonia and should i remove it. Sorry for being such a noob.

Sorry for the poor pic quality

Green stuff looks like bubble algea (Valonia). .. remove it outside of the tank... try not to pop them. If you pop... rinse well with old tank's water...

As far as mystery creatures... they look like baby mantis.. but it is hard to tell from the pic. Does it look like this?

The green bubbles do look like bubble algea...only I've never seen it grow in clusters like that.

Make sure you don't pop them in your tank, or they will release spores and spread all through your tank.

the little creatures look like mysis to me. they come out at night.
The algae is bubble algae. I unfortunately am being over taken by it in my 50 gal. I bought one frag with a bubble on it. i thought it looked cool but now realize i should have gotten it off first. i cant take my rocks out to scrub because they are covered with mushrooms, zoas, xenia and the like. I'm running out of ideas

Just keep an eye on the valonia. I have had a patch about that size for a year now. It doesn't get any bigger and I don't pop any to make it spread. It feeds on organic matter so be sure and keep up with water changes and maintenance.

thanks for the respons. The rock is easy to take out. should i try to remove it with a razor carfully next water change and rinse it out with my old water? or will this make it worse?

I also found that i have 1 button polyp that hich hiked on this live rock. I dont have proper lighting yet for corals but it still seems to be doing fine after being in my tank for a week. I only have the standard 40watt light for my 46gal bow front tank. Any recomendations for a beggener soft coral lighting.
