What brand of GFO do you use?

Hey all,
I've been using BRS gfo, not the high capacity gfo, and I can't ever get my phosphate levels down below .1 I'm using more then the recommended amount for my system and I've been thinking about changing gfo brands. I wanted to know what all the SPS guys are using for their gfo. Does the high capacity GFO from BRS work a lot better?

I use the high capacity stuff from BRS. Never used anything other but I use about a cup a month and the last month I didn't even change it. What are your parameters? By any chance is your Nitrate 0? In my tank I have to dose nitrate to keep my phosphate low. Sounds screwy. If its a true high nutrient issue may want to look into alternatives like lanthanum dosing, or even regenerating the GFO.

I use the BRS high capacity stuff, no complaints here and it lasts for a lot longer than the regular used to plus not as fine or dusty.

How can you be sure it's not the nitrate dosing that's helping to reduce the phosphates vs. the gfo you're using. What kind of carbon dosing are you using?

What are you using to test with? If a Red Sea kit, it may be giving you a bad reading. I know I had a problem with it a couple years ago. Ultimately, I went with a Hanna HI736 meter for this test.

Edit: I was a BRS HC GFO user too. I found through use that I only had to use half as much comparted to the regular granular, and I would last a little bit longer.

I use to use the ordinary GFO, but if the high capacity stuff is not as fine or dusty, I'm a convert. Thanks.

Because I've done it in the absence of GFO or when GFO was spent (over a month in use). I dose a blend of vinegar and vodka. Nothing special.

I am just an echo of what has already been said. I use the high capacity BRS gfo. It's good stuff.
