I have been looking at buying my Sheet Algae from the stores, Dierbergs and Shcnucks have packs of Nori and the stores along olive in U-City have them. Can you tell me what brands you might buy, and what to look for? I see that the store packaged Seaweed has those little packs in them to pull out Moisture. Would that do anything to the Seaweed to make it bad for the fish?

Thanks for the Help.

i can't remember the name of my brand, but i got it from the fish store.
dried seaweed sheets. have pictures of fish on them.
fish love em. it was like $5 and it's lasted me 3+ months so far.

I pick mine up from a little asian food store in Fairview Heights, don't remember the manufacturer but it's got mostly writing I can't read on the wrapper  It does, however, have the little moisture reducing packet thing in it. I think as long as it's just simple, pure dried seaweed you're ok.

Cool. I have been thinking about switching. The stuff in the store is a little less than going to Petsmart or LFS. If its pretty much the same thing, which it looks like it is, there is no reason to pay more for it.

thanks again.

I get mine now at an asian market at fee fee and olive rds. I paid 9 bucks for 100 sheets that are 2-3 X the size of the ones in the select packages.

Is that store in the same strip mall with the Happy China and Software Plus. Or is it across the street (fee fee) from that mall. for 100 sheets I will have to go there next time. That would last quite some time.

The desiccant is there to keep moisture out. The packages aren't air tight. The algae will start to break down even more in a moist enviro. It is already dead. If you add water and let it sit, you will have a stinky mess.
The desiccant shouldn't release any compound (as long as it is food grade) into the algae. It only pulls moisture out of the ambient air in the container.

*chuckle* that is where i get mine from too. I also tried the hugh sheet of kelp... yeah nobody liked that :)

If you are facing the Pink Galleon, it is directly to the left of it on the same side
