What calcium and baking soda will do!

Old School Reefer
In 8 - 10 months of keeping up with the calcium and alkalinity levels, I've got some pretty neat results:

I've taken several frags off of many of these SPS already. This is with 4 VHO bulbs.

It's a 65 gallon tank, so 4 feet wide, 13 inches front to back, and 22 inches top to bottom. the sump has 12 gallons plus another 4 gallons of reserve volume for overflow

EAGLES, I top off with about 2 L of kalkwasser a day, but that doesn't keep up with the calcium carbonate demand. I still have to add 80 ml of calcium chloride solution and 80 ml of sodium carbonate solution daily.

That's an ORA rose millepora Sanford... I think the color is prettier than the pink millepora. I got the neon green candy cane from Nick last summer. It had just 3 heads at the time. I cut off a small 3 head frag which I'm growing for you! If I make it to the next meeting I'll bring the XM bulb.

That is almost .6 gal of fluid added a day. Do you loose that much in evaporation daily?

Awesome corals Jay. I also have one of the rose milis and I love it. It grows really fast, too. I need to hit my son up for some of the green candy canes!!

Yes, I've seen the calculator. It's a good way to get started with an approximation of dosages, but each tank has a different bioload and there's a bit of trial and error involved in figuring out your daily doses to a more accurate volume. Just this weekend I've just had to increase my daily dose of bicarb from 80 to 90 ml because the coral have gotten larger and my levels were dropping down to about 7 after about a week.
