What camera to buy

I am looking for a good digital camera that can take good macro shots and good all around pics. I have a kodak easyshare Z760 now and I am not very happy with it. The close up shots suck and everything has to be completely motionless to get a decsent shot out of it. Any recommendations that are under $200.

You may be able to find a used Canon Powershot S3 IS for just at 200. It takes decent macro shots with its macro setting, and is a pretty good all-around point-and-shoot.

200 is tough but maybe even canon s5is used.... this being when the release of s6is

I'm going to buy a Nikon D40 next month on the strength of his recommendation. He also has some favorite point and shoot cameras that he reviews for under $200.

Don't base your purchase solely on that guys site. He's no more qualified than anyone on this site and is many cases he's dead wrong. He's largely regarded as an idiot by most of the professionals that I know.


It's good to do lots of research, it's bad to focus on just one source.

Doug, I've also checked out Dpreview to back up what I read on his site. I've also youtubed vids of the cameras I was interested in. I thought his site was a good starting point. Are there major problems with his reviews?

The problem is that they're his personal opinions. He actually discloses that on his "about" page:

I have been researching cameras this morning and I found the cannon A590 IS, it is getting great reviews on I everything I am looking for from a camera.
