What causes a cyno outbreak?

Just like it says. My tank never had an outbreak and in the last week or so I have noticed patches of the red stuff on my rocks

Usually high level of nutrients specially organics.
Improve your skiming, reduce amount of feedings, run a resin to remove organics like Purigen, keep up with water changes, use activated carbon.

The feeding is probably my problem. I added a sweet lips and naso tang a couple of months ago and have been feeding alot to make sure they stay healthy. How often do you feed?

Lack of flow will contribute to that problem.

I just got done reading an old post and my flow is fine, I think I need to cut back on my feeding

Agreed on the feeding. I have ridiculous flow and overkill skimmer in my tank and if I start getting carried away on the feeding for to long I will start to see little patches of it pop up. I just cut it back on the feeding for a while and it goes away.
