What clam

it would depend on the depth of the tank. but i would think that any would be fine, but for the size of the tank i would go with a maxima.

You need to keep in mind the size the clam will be. A maxima will be very large, will outgrow a small 5.5 as most large clams will. Your lighting is not a problem with that tank.
A crocea would be fine and give you good color, a squammy would be ok on the sand bed, but will get large as a maxima will. A durasa would also be ok.

the dimmensions of the tank are 16x8x10 LxWxH

so basically any clam will work, it'll just depend upon the size of the clam, m'kay, thanks :)

P.S. would any SPS work in there also?

i would not try to keep a clam in such a small water volume. clams are very sensitive to chem changes, Sg and Ph can shift fast in 5.5g and the demand a clam will put on Ca/Alk in 5.5g will be very high. IMO not a good idea

"a squammy would be ok on the sand bed, but will get large as a maxima will. A durasa would also be ok."

Huh? Squamosa and maxima can both easily reach 12", and the record for a derasa is 24"

Crocea is the ONLY species that'll fit - and as stated above - you will have great difficulty with water quality.

durasa was a mistake, meant crocea. I was thinking the squammy would be ok for a couple years until it became too large, then sell or transfer.
