what corals can harm clams?

i was wondering if you guys can tell me what corals are harmful to clams, usch as Hynophoras and galaxias.

I'm not positive about this, but I think the clams are relatively unharmed by most all corals. I remember reading somewhere in the Knop book, I think, that clams seem to be relatively indifferent to most coral nematocysts. I'd be more worried that the branches of your corals might create a permanent shadow--bleached area on the clam mantle. HTH

PS...I had a hydnophora next to a Crocea for a couple years with no problems at all.

I know Xenia does not harm the clams. I just have to make sure it doesn't try to attach to the crocea.

i think the clam will be fine if is on the shell.

I think what's meant is that xenia is usually quite prolific, and can eventually end up actually shading the clam a little. I regret putting xenia in one of my tanks, as it is a problem. You'll notice I have a xenia propagation tank.....that actually came more out of necessity than anything else. hth

i know that other people have also had problems with Galaxia and Hynophoras and i have personally had problems with my rose anemone stinging one of my croceas, but yet the other crocea was totally unaffected by the stinging of the anemone, go figure.

I recently had a frogspawn kill a 4-5 inch maxima.

How big is your frogspawn and how far away was it from you clam? I am starting to get concerned about my growing frogspawn and it's sweeper tentacles.

Frogspawn skeleton is about 10 inches diameter. It doesnt extend it's tentacles very much. They longest tentacles are only about 1.5 inches. The maxima was just within the frogspawn's reach so about 1.5 inches away.

The maxima's mantle quit extending on the side that was touching the frogspawn. It was like this for about 2 months before I moved it. The maxima lasted another month but never recovered and eventually died.

I will add that the same maxima was very near a large galaxia. The clam did not react the the galaxia at all. I even considered cuting a hole in the middle of the galaxia and placing the maxima in the middle of it. I may try this later with a smaller maxima.
