I got back from a business trip this evening to find my semifaciatus male laying on the MP60 much the same way that other fish I have owned demonstrated they are checking out of the aquarium for good. I took a net and gently moved the fish off the power head. It started to swim. I noticed it had a huge open ulcer on its side. Something is eating into the fish. I took the fish and put it in a bucket and transferred it into the hospital tank. As I was acclimating the fish I treated the water with prazipro. About ten minutes later I came back to find little black specs floating in the water. Could these be flukes or another parasite? This fish is in critical condition and probably won't survive the night. I decided to treat it with maramycin as the open wound is going to be infected. a I also continued the prazipro. I know it is probably not wise to mix medications. At this point there was nothing to loose as survival is probably less then 5%.
I will go down and check on fish in the morning. I am not expecting any miracles. The fact that I treated with prazipro and some visible critters were in the water leads me to believe this was a parasite like maybe flukes? Do flukes cause flesh eating ulcers?
