What do you feed your anthias?

Let me start by saying how pleased I am with my recent purchase of 10 Lyretail anthias and two wrasses. Very.

However, it has been almost 5 days now and I am not seeing the anthias eat very much if at all. I have gotten the best feeding response so far from some small frozen brine. All of them move around and act excited when the food hits the water, but only some of them actually take anything into their mouths. And even then, they often spit it back out.

It seems like the anthias are getting more and more attracted to the frozen brine as time is passing, but I was just wondering what they where being fed at your facility.

I have tried Spectrum Pellets, frozen Cyclopeez, live - newly hatched brine shrimp, and a couple types of flake food. I have not tried mysis, mainly due to the size of them.

The wrasses prefer the frozen brine, but will eat the pellets and flake. They are great fish. One is a Carpenter's wrasse, and the other is a Labout's.

Oh, by the way, these fish are currently in my 65 gal qt tank and the wrasses do not even act like the anthias are in the tank and vice-versa. So there are no problems there.

AcroSteve,

Thank you for your recent order with Live Aquaria. We are happy to hear your experience was a positive one. We feed the Gamma Frozen foods to our fish at our holding facility. We apologize you are having some difficulties with the feedings. It is possible it may take them some time to get use to the new foods you are offering. When offering new foods you may want to try soaking the food in Garlic Xtreme, this will enhance the scent of the food and make it more attractable to the fish.

Please PM us with your account information, we would like to stay abreast on how the fish are eating. If we can be of any additional assistance, please feel free to contact our Live Aquaria Department at 1-800-334-3699 or via email at customerservice@liveaquaria.com and we will be happy to answer any question(s) you may have.

I have some garlic extreme that I will add to the frozen brine.

The Formula two flakes I have been using has garlic in them, as well as the Spectrum flake. The pellets do not.

I will look into the gamma foods too. It looks like there are mussles and cockles. Anything in particular for the small anthias?

Do you have an opinion on blood worms or tubilfex worms?

I just fed some garlic soaked mysis. I got the strongest feeding response yet. Nearly every one ate something.

I will do the brine shrimp in the morning.

Steve,

Thank you for your post. We are pleased to hear your fish have started to eat again. We would suggest the zooplankton for the smaller females Lyretail Anthias. They can be fed any type of meaty foods. Again, if introducing this for the first time we would suggest trying adding the Garlic Xtreme.
