What do you feed your starry blenny?

Mine took a few days to accept pellets, flake, and mysis. I started my starry blenny off with seaweed on a clip. Then he started eating whatever the other fish ate.

I had good luck using algae wafers (for a lawnmower) to teach him to take prepared foods. Just place in in a spot he normally grazes and he will probably sample it in passing. Once they try them they love them. Nori pinned down in his grazing area will help too.

Mine eats everything I throw at him. Couldn't resist sharing my favorite picture of him:

I started mine out by target feeding him mysis using a syringe and a long tube. For the fist couple of days he was reluctant to eat, but now when he sees the tube he attacks it, almost sucking the food out like a straw.

Ironwill my cheveron gets alon with everyone he is 5 inches long now but I got him that big and the blenny was in the tank first.

The starry that I posted about earlier in this thread jumped out of the tank this summer. He was a large blenny, probably between 4 & 5 inches in length, a very good fish. The scopas tang and the blenny were best friends, and it almost seemed as if they were actually a mated pair. It was quite something to see. The poor scopas became extremely nervous and shy, mostly hiding in the caves after his buddy vanished.

In September I got a new starry from DD, but I didn't look at the size when I purchased him. He was between a half and three quarters of an inch in length when he got here, the smallest fish I have ever had in the tank. He looked like a little tadpole. I don't think the tang even recognized him as a fish. Well in three months he has grown to 3 inches in length, and the tang has a grazing buddy again. They eat from the algae bag together, but have not yet "bonded" like the original twosome was.

PS - I did put netting up around the tank, sort of like a back stop, around the 2 open ends of the tank. The other 2 are blocked by the canopy doors, so no more jumping casualties are expected.

For whatever reason, my starry blenny never had an interest in Nori or any other type of algae I put in the tank. When I added Rod's Food though, he would attack it just as hard as the chalk bass! I think they must put fish cocaine or something in Rod's Food, because I've never seen a fish turn it down.

ReeferGil, glad you like the picture. The Blenny has been with me for over five years now and continues to thrive. There has never been the least threat of aggression from him and he has a voracious appetite.

Nothing different than I feed any of my other wrasses, tangs, gobies etc. He eats nori off the clip and then mysis, krill, brine, cyclop eeze, squid, etc.
