What first?

What do I add fist in a completely new (cycled) tank. False Percula or Royal Gramma? Please let me know soon because I plan on getting it today. Also, how often do I do water changes, it is an 80 gallon tank with 30kg of LR, Aqua C Remora Pro and a Rena Filstar XP2.

in an 80g you sould put both in at the same time. water changes are up to the keeper. most prefer every two weeks in small bio-load such as yours and usually 25%. REEF-ON!!!

Can I put them in seperately? If yes, which one? BTW, I plan on getting 2 False Perculas so I was thinking the Royal Gramma first. Please let me know.

How often do they need to be fed? What do I feed them, BTW I am in the UK so please don't tell me US products.

in 80 it doesnt matter..should be plenty of room for them since both stay small..is there a reason you dont wanna add both at the same time? as for feeding...i know most clowns will take flake and i dont supose freeze dried or frozen or live foods would hurt either! lol. pretty much anything...but make sure you put some garlic in it, or make sure the flake has garlic added...helps their immune system greatly and it just helps overall health of the fish.

ya i know whta you mean...(i'm only 17 and i dont have money either)

in that case..you should just add whichever one you would like to have first...i think that royal grammas are somewhat skittish and dont come out much for a while...and i did hear that they dont like a ton of light...i would prolly do the clowns first, but mostly just cuz i like those more.

80 gallons is plenty of room for these 2 fish, as they're both pretty small. The clowns (are you getting percs/ocelaris, or are you getting something like maroons?) can be pretty territorial, but not aggressive...meaning they will protect their space...they can also hold their own w/bigger fish..they can dish out quite a bit for such a small fish (they're related to damselfish, so i'm guessing thats where they get that from lol) But they wont go "hunting" for fights so they'd be fine first.

the royal grama..i havent read a whole lot on them, but i dont remember ever seeing that they were territorial, and i know they're not aggressive, so i would think that if the clowns have already established a spot, the gramma wouldnt care...it would just go somewhere else.

also, for the clowns, i think that once they find a good spot, they kinda dont stray to far from it...other than feeding time of course lol.

I will get the clowns first. BTW, I wasn't only going to get 2 False Percs and Royal Gramma. My full list is: 2 False Perculas 1, Copperband Butterfly, 1 Cleaner Shrimp, 1 Royal Gramma.

ya i pretty much figured taht wasnt all you're getting. Dont rush it tho and get the butterfly so fast..wait about a month or so after you put these guys in.

even w/your full list, thats still a very small bioload for an 80, so if you ever wanted more fish, i'd say you've got plenty of room. I'm not too sure about how butterflys are as far as territorial...but i know they arent agressive...and if they were, i dont think the other fish would get hurt toomuch since they have such tiny mouths lol. and i cant remember why, but there was some reason you wanna be carefull w/butterflies...i cant remember, so you should prolly read up on it a bunch if you havent already...

also, are you planning on doing this as a reef or just fish only? I'm not sure how much 30kg of live rock converts to in pounds, but it should be a 1-2 pound per gallon of water ratio to give you a good filtration system...the rena filstar (i'm guessing its a canister filter?) is fine for fish only, but i wouldnt use it for a reef. If it is a reef, just slowly take out the media in the filter till theres nothin in there...nitrates build up in those really easy, and its really doing no good if you've got 80 pounds of live rock, so why risk it? but for fish only its fine.

I have read up a bit about Butterflies already, they are not entierly reef safe. I do plan on trying to make it a reef tank. I am not getting the Butterfly 100%, I'm not sure if I want it and even if I were to get it I would probably get it after 1 month. I was hesitating on adding a Flame Angel later on aswell, is this possible? Is it reef safe? Is the tank big enough?

i've been askin up on the flame angel a lot on several sites for quite a while, because thats my "must have" fish...i've decided today that i will be getting one too, and mine is going to be and is somewhat now, a reef tank... so heres what i've found out about them..

oh and to answer your question...yes your tank is PLENTY big for it..i've seen people put them in 30 gals.

anyways, they're supposedly the most "reef safe" dwarf angel you're gonna find...there's always the chance that they'll nip at corals, but they're the least likely. I was under the impression that coral beauties were less aggressive and less likely to nip corals, but i found out from a lot of people's input that its the other way around.

i will be keeping mine w/a pair of false (ocellaris) clowns as well (i'm getting my clowns tomorrow too btw...had them on reserve for about a week and a half!), and then i'll be adding a sixline wrasse prolly...and then the flame. i'll let you know how the flame is w/the rest of the fish once i get him. I'm also contemplating putting a flame hawk in too, but i'm undecided about that.

last, even if a fish is claimed to be "reef safe" or somewhat reef safe, like a flame angel and butterflies, and the particular one that you get turns out to be NOT reef safe, you can always take it out and try a new one.

mmm...i'd say 2 times a day is fine. just make it 2 small ones. Are you just gonna feed flake? for clowns i'd think thats the easiest, as i dont think they require anything special...just get a flake thats got garlic added to it...like i said above, it helps a bunch.

if you notice the water starting to get dirty fast, and a bunch of brown algae...maybe cut back on the feeding a little...either make the feedings smaller yet, or just do one feeding...kinda in between the size of 1 small feeding, and both combined...but i dont think you will see any problems because thats such a small bioload for now.

so, did you get the clowns yet? if you havent already got them in the tank, remember to acclimate them first...dont just dump them in there...you prolly already know this of course, but you'd be surpised at how many people w/tanks dont know what you're talkin about when you tell them about acclimating the fish.

I also ask this because I am going on hilidat but I don't know if I will get them on holiday since I don't know anyone ready to take care of them.
